HUGS Mary Alice Adkison Oncology Nursing Fund

Mary Alice Adkison dedicated her entire life to helping others in the community that she grew up in and loved. It is fitting that her legacy will continue through the establishment of an Oncology Nursing Fund to financially assist nurses who are dedicated to the fight against cancer and wish to advance their clinical expertise by obtaining Oncology Nurse Certification.

Since the beginning of HUGS Charities, Mary Alice worked passionately to benefit local individuals and families affected by cancer. As HUGS’ first treasurer, she implemented its 501(c)3 status as a tax free charity and tirelessly continued to dedicate her time and energy as a HUGS board member. After she herself was diagnosed with cancer, she enthusiastically attended the 2022 fundraiser in her wheelchair and personally encouraged people to contribute more than they would have by convincing them how much their contribution would help others.

None of the monies for HUGS Charities general fund will go to the Oncology Nursing Fund. Thanks to generous donors, this fund will be financed by monies specifically donated to the fund as a lasting way to recognize Mary Alice’s dedication and contribution to the fight against cancer.
